A Walk Down Charles Street

Beacon Hill begins at the Boston Common and the Public Garden. There are only four public parks in the United States that are designated on the National Historic Register, and the Common and the Garden are two of them.

Charles Street runs along the base of Beacon Hill, known as "The Flat" of the Hill. This street has always been mixed-use, with shops, restaurants, businesses as well as homes. Charles Street was named for the Charles River, which separates Boston from Cambridge.
